POST #1 - MILLING MACHINE
Here are some pictures of parts for a 1/12 scale model of a milling machinie. There are over 50 pieces to made
many of which are threading, taper turning, crowned pulleys, etc. Will CNC as much as possible utiliziing Lazcam, the Wizards,
etc to produce the gcode for as many parts as possible. Of course some manual coding also.You just can't beat CNC when duplication comes into play. The little three ball handles can be a pain in the neck even when all the cutters are already made but not so with CNC. So until the model is done you just get to look at some of the parts.

Un-freaking-real. Wow. You've got more patience than most of us, for sure. I see that some of the parts are cast. Whats the story behind that?

There are a few outfits that sell kits. You get some castings for some parts and enough material to do them along with a
a set of drawings. In some cases, like the pulleys, I don't use the castings as it is easier to just use some bar stock. The kits are fun do do but it takes time and you need to be in the mood. The mill has a lot of turned parts thus one of the reasons for wanting the threading and turning capability out of MACH. I use the three ball handle as an example because manualy doing them and holding a thou takes about 4 hours from start to finished piece, sometimes longer. With a CNC lathe turn one in about 4 minutes! Of course I had to learn turn which is paying off. If you get a chance, go to a model engineering show. Some of the things those guys do are absolutely amazing.

One supplier of kits for model machine tools is PM Research, http://www.pmresearchinc.com/store/home.php?cat=6

They offer many machines, and also several model steam engines. Many of them are aluminum castings, they also offer a couple steam engines in brass. They also have an extensive line of model parts, like pipe fittings, pressure gauges, etc. Nice people to do business, with, always exhibit at the major model engineering shows.
