6 Tool Automatic Tool Changer for Bridgeport with R8 Spindle

I am selling a 6 tool holder ATC that works with an R8 Spindle.  It works great with Mach3, I plan to build a bigger one that can hold 12 tools.

Why does the tool need to be lifted to the spindle? Why cant the spindle be lowered to the tools?
Seems a lot easier and less mechanicals.

Great Question. 

The Kurt Power Draw Bar will only load/unload tools at Zero Pos.  Reminber this is a R8 spindle.

What do you have in place that assures that the spindle key lines up with the keyway in the tool holder prior to loading ?

Great Observation. 

The key in the spindle has been removed, so there is no allignment issues when loading.  This is a common practice with older machinist as I have learned.
