Description (revised) Item Specifics - Item Condition Condition: Used Item Specifics - Welders Brand: -- Power Source: 208/240V Electric Multi-Process: -- Current Type: 3 Phase Processes: Plasma, Torch Condition: Used Product Type : CNC Router
Up for auction is this NON WORKING Cobra CNC router made by Cobra Machinery of Garland,Texas. This is a gantry type 2 1/2 axis machine, the Z axis is actuated by computer, with an air cylinder and stops. Movement of X and Y axis is accomplished with special cogged belts which contain steel cables embedded in them. X and Y axis ride on V shaped ways with matching wheels. Pacific Scientific heavy-duty servomotors are reduced in speed with normal cogged belts at ratio of what looks to be 3:1. The bed consists of plywood slats running parallel to the Y axis, in between these slats are vacuum cups that can be adjusted from side to side. The vacuum cups are connected to air cylinders that pull your workpiece, down on the bed of the machine. Some of the plywood slats are broken, these could be easily replaced. The way this machine is made, It could easily be converted into a plasma or torch cutting machine. You could remove the wooden slats and make up a pan to hold water, take off the spindle, (and sell on E-bay) mount your Torch or Plasma, and you would have a large capacity cutter. About 10 years ago we bought 2 CNC routers both not working, this one, and a Thermwood. We decided to fix up the Thermwood because it had step motors and most likely would be easier to retro-fit with a PC control. The Cobra is in our way, and we need the floor space. Machine has not been run much at all, and has spent most of its time sitting idle in our shop and at the previous owners plant. We have never run this machine, nor have we seen it run. Also included is the Galil motion controller manual in a 3 ring binder. This could be a great opportunity to get a large capacity machine at low cost, if you are handy with electrical & mechanical systems of a CNC router.
We do not know much about this machine. The following has been tested: Spindle motor runs, but only tested at 60Hz 3600 RPM as the machine does not have an inverter mounted in it. Spindle seems a little loud -May need new bearings. Both X and Y axis seem to move freely when pushed by hand. LED's light on Axis drives. LED's light on Galil Controller.
