Got my swarf cover finished,  this should work great for the upside down position when using it as a tool height setter.  I will include one of these with each probe.
For the everyone that has already purchased their probe, email me and I will ship you one no charge.

This picture is of the old style with the swarf cover,  the swarf cover is the same but the new style probe has a flat base, works much better for the tool height setting position,  it also reduces the overall length.

Just an FYI... I used this probe for the first time last weekend... Im super impressed and appear to get repeatability in the area of .0003 -.0005.  Product quality is excellent and just very happy... would buy again in a heartbeat!

Thanks for the post and evaluation.  I've recieved mine but have yet to test it because I am missing the jack needed to interface it to the controller.

I have a minor request of the vendor.  Please include, or offer as an extra price option, the needed jack.  My nearest Radio Shack is 75 miles away so a "quick trip" is not possible.  I won't be placing my monthly order to Mouser or Newark for a couple of weeks, so intil then my probe just sits there, collection dust.

I look forward to seeing the same results as David.

Regard,
Gary

Gary,

I will do.  If anyone wants a jack let me know, I will get a price on it and I can include that with it for a small fee,  I have a Radio Shack about 5 miles away,  our town is small just 3000 people and a Radio Shack so I assumed everyone had one.

In the mean time I will try to remember to include the cutoff jack,  I use a stereo extension cord for the cord and just cutoff the jack end,  didn't think of it before but folks might want that to use for their connection.  I will try to remember this and cut it off about 1' long then you have everything you need to wire this up.

Gary, send me an email to aminear@wyomingwireless.com and I will send you out one of these cutoffs if you want.

Thanks everyone for the orders,  I have passed 40 units shipped so far.  It has been a lot of work, but fun.  I am thinking about doing an article for Digital Machinist on building this one.

I got my probe working today.  I scavenged a jack from a dead Creative Nomad Muvo.  I gutted it and used the plastic housing as a mount for the jack.  Works like a charm.

I use Mach3 which has a built in G-Code for probes.  This probe worked great right out of the box.  Right now I'm just using it for edge finding but I'm looking forward to doing some more complex tasks, including digitizing.

I do have one question.  What is the tip diameter (I apologize if I've missed this in the documentation)?  Mine measures 0.128 inch.  This seemed like an odd size to me, so I checked it with two sets of calipers.  0.128 inch is not a problem, I just want to make sure my measurements are correct.

Keep up the good work.

Gary,

Glad to get some feedback.  You are probably correct on the tip diameter,  I rough these out on my lathe and then finish them in a panel router by hand,  the panel router uses a collet so I can get a better finish and more accurate roundness with it.  There is a lot of variation in the finished sizes.

Thanks

Has anyone had any luck contacting Arnie lately?

Emails are bouncing with a DNS error for q1.netfirms.com
