rcrabb, nice to hear that there are people like you out there Smiley We are working on the FRO and putting splines through 3D points to speed up 3d toolpaths. Once we have that I think it is going to be a true winner! There are other toys that we are thinking about, but they are very far off and we have no idea if we can get them to work Sad It looks like a fun year (again).

Although my mill is relatively slow (100IPM) and is rigid enough to have  never had problems with Jerk I have noticed a difference. I think it may not be as pronounced as users of machines such as gantry routers will see but there is a difference. I can triple my acceleration and everything runs a lot nicer, I ran some code today which took 6mins 31 seconds in Mach3 and the re-ran with Quantum and it took 5mins 55secs. Doesnt sound a lot but thats almost a 10% decrease in cycle time which is pretty impressive.
Looking forward to the rest of Quantum.

I'm going to do a few more tests tonght. I think I can tune my motors even better. Just the sound of the motors on my first test was amazing.

I'm just begain to test Mach3 on my lathe. At 25khz my Z axis speed cap is 140ipm but misses steps, It runs good a 95ipm with acceleration set to max . My question is will Q run my machine faster?

I got the same results as Hood. We have similar machines. (90 IPM)I doubled my accel. I was pushing my little steppers pretty hard to begin with. I ran code that would take 4min. 38 sec. with Mach in 4 min. flat. That's a whole heap faster. I think the lighter gantry machines will see a huge difference. Once I get my knee running faster the difference will be grater I'm sure. I'm going to try some more test this weekend.

Edited to suit Hood. Cheesy
