I have been off the scene for a while.
But from what I can remember, both Q and Mach 3 can handle onle 6 axes. And only two can be slaved.
You have a very ambitious proyect in your hands, you might be able to make it work with galil products although i am not that sure, i have never used them.

Hi Fernando - Thank you for the reply.

It is really not that exotic, really just a 3 axis router with a potential to add a 4th axis.

The master / slave steppers are really just an alternative to mechanically tying together drive components on each end of the table.  This is partially cost driven and partially just mechanically easier for me.

The second spindle is a simple man's approach to avoiding an automatic tool changer (see Ger21's design on cnczone) - that is where I got the idea.

Having a stepper motor as one of the spindles helps with matching a threading operation.

When you get a chance to work on quantum some more, please consider more master / slave outputs as a potential feature.

Thanks

Will closed loop using steppers be part of the equation ?

I did try a search but there wasn't much to read.

I too would be interested in knowing if Closed-Loop w/Steppers will be a feature.  Thanks!!

I'm just worried that if you take all the jerks out of CNC their wont be any one left to run the machines.

Please dont take offense to my discolored humor, I am forever ingratiated to all the great people of the CNC community, especially the ones that have made Mach what it is.  I am looking forward to Quantum, it sounds like just what we need to move ahead with.  Keep up the great work.

i beleve the new curve looks good i had mach 3 rip the guts out of a ball screw nut on a 1 inch screw when auto setting the steps per on a z axis on a square coloum mill was that costly ruined the nut and the screw it rapids to fast when doing this move and tears up stuff.

If Quantum is so good, why the Artsoft  people doesn't put all their effort to finish the program.  Huh

I think is because It's going to bee free for UPGRADE  no UPDATE, for the older owners of the previous versions (MACH 2 & 3).

For me, They should sell the program like a new program. (previous owners already have made some money with their version and I bet more than $150)

Artsoft  people puts lost of their time and effort and that has to be rewarded (they have to earn something from this)

If you already pay for MACH 2 or 3 , pay again for new and enhanced version (you had do it for Microsoft for already 20 years)

This is my point of view and I hope helps to speed up the develop of the program.
