Has anyone had success using 3D files with Quantum?  I have tried a number of settings for Max Jerk in Path Smoothing, but it still runs at about 5-10% of the feed rate.

Hi:

3d files are slow because the acceleration time of a Scirve is longer than a trapezoid.
However, because the SCurve allows you to increase your acceleration by a factor of 3 or so from
a trapaezoidal scheme (Mach3), it shoudl cut faster, or as fast as MAch3.

We will be workign on that next when Quantum development resumes.. As sson as I
finish a few other things..

Some things are slower but over all I find my self clicking on my quantum icon more so then my mach 3 icon..

The estimator in midi is real close and you can play with it to get it that way and get quick results to your setting changes (far as speed differences go)

I for one am looking forward to more quantum for my bigger router mill.  Not really something my round pole cnc mill needs..

Hi all,

Just thought I would comment. I finally got around to installing and tweaking quantum and all i have to say is wow!  It has easily tripled my machine's performance. My mill has a 1400# Gantry and it has a little oscillation on hard starts and sops. Quantum has all but totally gotten rid of that problem!

I have run 2 50,000 line programs and have had no problems.

3D is a little slow. If they can get that faster things would be perfect!

I did notice if you apply a FRO it will reset to whatever the programed rate is after a rapid.. Other than that for a alpha things look good!!

Thanks Art and Brian!!

Hello To all,
I did some test and Q makes things a lot smoother on the machine, but and here is the but, Q won't let Me jog  the axis,it freezes ,  and  I have to use the task Manager to kill Q . Any body  else with this problem?
When the bugs are fix this is going to be really neat.
Thank You, Marco.

That's fantastic.  My CAM software (visualmill) only ouputs small line arcs.  So this will be a huge huge help in speeding up my cutting times (and saving tools from an early death).

I started using Quantum. It is huge difference. The machine no only does not bump but when it is cutting, it flies. I have problem to refarin myself to use only Quantum instead of Mach3. Why not all efforts are on development/improvment of Quantum instead of Mach3. Quantum is making a CNC router drived by steppers to run almost similar to a CNC router drived by AC servo, almost same smoothness which is making a huge difference in the quality of cutting. This is just an opinion but myself I would like to see the same pace of development to Quantum as I have seen last year on Mach3.

Anyway, THANK YOU guys for your GREAT job on Mach, Lazycam and Quantum.

Hi Zoltan:

Thanks, we will get there, but OEM's and many others require a stable Mach3 while we do Quantum, WE're almost there... Smiley

Hehe..  Quantum seems pretty nice the way it is.  Seems a few spots when coming from corners to streightaways it changes speed (from segment turns where it's slower) quicker and jerks a bit more but I don't clame to have mine configured totaly perfect for ultimate smoothness (I really just eyeball my setup)

only real wish I have is to separate jogging from the acceleration so that part is as smoothe as when quantum is running code.

Can't think of the last time I ran Mach3 rather then quantum with my router mill.  I'm still doing mach3 with my regular mill though since it does not know the difference between them at the speeds it goes..

No chance for progress with Quantum? There is no way to implement in Mach3 the same driver as in Quantum? I can not anymore run Mach3 on my machine. It is so pleaseant to hear the sound of the machine and to watch it at 15 m/min how it dances a vals. I am desperate to see the development of Quantum..

Thank you,

Zoltan
