step + direction to run a servo

Hi, a while back i saw a post with a link to an adaptor that converted step + direction signals (mach3) to run a servo through the encoder input. Does anyone remember this or can give me a link to one.

I would have thought if your servo drive accepted encoder follower mode it would also have the capability of Step/Dir mode, what make model drive is it?

Hi Hood, it's a baldor dbsc 1102 baa, but there are several versions of this type, and the type i have does not support step + direction only pulse follower. The next version up does.

I've spent an hour on the phone with Baldor, who are exceptionally helpfull, and eventually found the correct manual for these drives. So it's either an adaptor card for the three drives or new drives,

PS. the motors are baldor bsm63a-275aa ac brushless servos.

or convert the s+dir signals to whatever the drive normally needs

Servo drives normally accept + -10v analogue  inputs and there used to be a product called the Pixie that converted step/Dir to Analogue. It is no longer made as far as I know. There is a DIY one called YAPSC but no idea how well it works but think the Zone has info on it, a google should get you to the site of the creator.
Other option is to use the DSPMC or Galil or Kflop/Kanalog as they will output + - 10V.

through the many searches i've done on this, i came across the pixie and yapsc. The pixie looked like it would do the job, typical, and the yapsc looks unbelievably technical. The dspmc is a bit pricey compared to a drive change, i'll have a nose at the others. Any idea on pricing for the galil or kflop.

Galil would make the DSPMC look cheap unless you picked one up second hand. The Kflop with KAnalog I think comes out about £500 but dont quote me on that.
