1/5th Scale V8 Blown

Off thread here somewhat, but think it's worth a few postings  about  what is being used to assist you in creating the Gcode for the parts you need to machine.
At the hobby level it is very hard to justify spending a lot of money to make life easy.

I don't know about off thread. The reason I post this stuff is because #1 I think people will think it's cool to see but #2 If someone sees how it got done it might help them to do a similar thing. It's about learning from each other. I have learned so much from this board and others, I am trying to give a little back. I think it's great when people ask questions because they want to learn how something is done.

With reference to the insulators, just how small are these things are they a true 1/5th scale?

The plugs are not 1/5th scale. There are some things that you cant scale down too much. I have never measured them against a real plug but they do look awful big in the engine. They have a #8-40 thread. I do have insulators made for #6-56 plugs. I have seen smaller but never tried to make smaller.

I would think that the corian in the insulators would melt.  Is there a limit as to how long the engine can run?

I have had corian plugs in my V4 for 3 years now and it still runs as good as new.

I got rained out at work today so I took a few hours in the garage. I guess this would be the official kickoff of the Version 2, Small V8. It is the same engine with a roots blower. I would guess this one will go a bit faster than the first but the way work is I don't know if I'll get back in the garage this month, or next month.

My friend Ron wants to bend the tubing in his new bender for the zoomies so i made the flanges today. The last time I made them I drilled and reamed the holes for the pipes. That didn't work well in .063 thick plate so this time I milled the holes .010 smaller and then reamed them to 5/16. Still not perfect bit I am alot happier doing them this way.

I finally have something to report. My friend Ron fired up the tubing bender and I made the flanges and then he came over to silver solder the pipes together. Unfortunately this will be about all for a while. Still working too much but I hear it might end after the holidays.
