Problem with motor tuning
«

Hi,
Hoping the forum can help with a problem.
I am configuring my machine at present and am having issues with motor control.
I have great success tuning my motors under the tuning dialog box, got steps per mm correct etc. get good smooth running accel on all axis.
But when I save and exit the motor tuning dialog box, the motors do not perform the same at all.
When trying to jog or run code they act all jerky/stall move roughly etc.
If I slow the motors right down under the tuning dialog, then save exit. The machine settles down a bit, but still runs rough in comparison to the setting in the tuning dialog.
Any suggestions.
Oriental motors 7.2 gearbox
gecko 203's
running 56v
mach3
have checked all wiring
mach 3 pulse test all good.
Any help much appreciated. Been trying to resolve this for days.

What do you have the kernel set to?
What do you have the Pulse width set to?

Hi ,
Have tried 3 different kernel speeds, all exhibit the same discrepency between motor tuning and actual running of the motors under jogging or running code.
Tried just about every pulse width variation.
Has been suggested on the mechmate forum( Thats what i am building ) , that the motor tuning dialog uses different software to run than the rest of the program. That would explain the difference, but not sure if that is true or not.
Going to re-double check my wires / earthing again.
Any other suggestions more than welcome.

On the diagnostics page what is the frequency like, is it jumping around or sitting steady and close to your kernel speed. Also what is the Time in Int?

HI, The frequency is pretty stable hovers pretty much around the 35000 I have set.
The Time in int flickers around 3.8 - 4.5 occasionally jumping to 8-9 , Is that bad.

These numbers are fine so thats not the problem, the lower the time in Int the better and yours are good.
Can you attach your xml please and I will have a look and see if I can find an issue.

xml looks fine, I do see you have buttons set for feedhold and cycle start through OEM trigger, can you disable them to see if that makes a difference.
How exactly are your axis driven as your steps per mm seem very low.

Not so much different software but I think the screen is not updated whilst in tuning. This thread seems similar if it's any help

The steps per mm work out perfectly in terms of movement on the table.
Oriental motors with 7.2 gearbox 36 tooth pinion on module 1 rack.
Thinking it might be a computer issue .
