Its been a while since I first tested the Beta with the backlash but I am sure when I was stepping via the MPG at 0.01mm moves it was correct by the time I got to the amount in the backlash I had set, in other words needle on DTI and DRO in Mach corresponded and I am sure when I reversed again at 0.01 steps it was correct on the needle and DROs. Dont think I moved one step one direction then reversed by more than backlash to see if it was out but will try and remember when I make it back to the workshop.

Hi Yoram,
Thanks for drawing attention to the Planet-CNC USB controller.
This board is available to buy complete or for those who can make their own PCB's, full constructional details (hardware, firmware and software) are available for the 4 axis version.

Here's another non-Mach3 USB option.

That is an interesting product, for a stand-alone CNC machine. Does anyone here have any hands-on experience with it? I REALLY like the idea that the machine can be controlled through a c# application.

Terry,
Yes, that does look tempting.... I really like being able to create custom screens, and that is a painful process with Mach3. Is the KFlop robust and stable?

Ray everyone I talked to said it was great.
BUT I would suggest suggest you call TOM at Kflop and discuss with him your needs. He is a very knowledgeable STRAIGHT shooter. I hear they have rigid tapping running with it as well .
BUT I am not sure whether that is with servo mode OR encoder VFD mode. It does support a spindle encoder. But it would have to support electronic gearing to do it encoder/VFD mode.
