New Mill Drill conversion
«

Brand new to this CNC building.
Would like your input on my Mill Drill conversion. Got some Linear actuators from work with size 23 triple stack steppers, rated at 125 oz-in. Ball screws with 5 tpi and 10t motor pulley and 20T screw pulley with XL timing belts.
Do you think these component are adequate for use on the conversion. Specs from the actuator show it is rated at 200lbs thrust. Just wondering what other people are using for conversions on these mill drills.
Thanks

cb400f,
Assuming you will micro step with a value of 10 then the steps per unit will be 20000 with a .00005" resolution.
Size of steppers may not be adequate since you need to see what torque you have at some max velocity you will use.
How are you wiring them, what amp setting and at what voltage is available for the drives. So even though there is
250 oz-in available because of gearing, it may be decreased significantly.
So try them out and if they are too punny then just replace them with bigger ones.
I use 500 oz-in steppers on my small lathe and mill and both have 2:1 reduction.

Curtis,
Post a picture of the mill so we have an idea of size.
The diameter defnes mounting requirements. Have a look at Nook or other manufacturers on what they recomend.
I use 5/8" diameter on both my mill and lathe and the longest distance between supports is 36".
