However, we should not confuse earth bonding (which is essentially a safety issue) with signal shielding, they are two separate issues entirely.

Most folks don't understand the concept of signal shielding.

For power I was talking about the 80 vdc from the Geckos to the servos.

Here is a diagram to explain it better. Sometimes I have a hard time describing something when I don't know the correct terminology.




My Hurco had it all crammed into a plastic flex loom. The only metal conduit was where chips could get to the limit switches.

If they are in their own flex conduit I can see no problem, in fact I have come across several instances where the servo and shielded encoder are in the same conduit, if you have both shielded I don't see a problem, also cables that are twisted the full length have the inherent feature of noise cancellation on its own.

Good reference Nosmoking.
Section 3.3 sums up the coupling. Simply said, the shielding does as the name implies such that it contains the signal path in or others away.
How to best deal with controlling or eliminating the sources and  providing appropriate grounding can amount to "Black Magic" at times.
General rules / or wiring practice will help in avoiding problems from the start. The problem is most folks don't think in terms of interference and
the things associated with it are not naturally felt or seen.

Thanks guys, for all of the good info.
It seems that when it  gets to the interesting/fun part of wiring, I am covered up in work.  

But, that is good. Without work, I wouldn't need this machine or have a way to pay for it.
