I don't recall any posted changes since around 042.32 to 34 but may have something.

Seems that way Rich, shame really as I am going to look at a Beaver TC15 lathe today and have a Galil thats been sitting here doing nothing for a couple of years.

Hi, can any of you explain in simple terms what would be the advantage of using a Galil (or similar) controller instead of just connecting two servo drives commanded by step/dir signals directly to a computer running Mach? Is there a significant performance improvement to be obtained by using one of these controllers. I have a future project and would like to consider all options.
Thanks,
Jorge

It allows you to use analogue amps rather than having to fit Step/Dir drives. So if the lathe already has the analogue amps and I already have a Galil then it would be a cheap/easy retrofit.

Lathe threading is getting closer. I have it working offline using strictly Galil code. Now it needs to be integrated into the Galil plug in. I can't do this alone and need Smurph or Brian to free up some time to help me. Both are working straight out at the moment. We are planning to get together in a few weeks to try and get some of these things ironed out. Maybe it will be ready by the fall. There are several other goodies coming with the next release that will make use with a lathe much better.
I need it too, so there is some urgency to this.

Hood,
Yes the spindle can be: servo, +/- 10v, or 0 - 10v, encoder or not, selectable on the axis config page of the plugin. For non servo spindle, there may be some alterations needed to the macros, but they will be documented in the plugin PDF manual.

Sounds good, now I just need to see if I get the lathe and give Brian a kick in the bollocks if I do
