Thank you to all who have replied to my call for help for the "X" axis. 

After setting the debounce to 1000 my "Z" axis homes appropriately.  The possibility that my "home" switches are causing the problem with the "X" axis is very high;; the switches are magnetic switches.
I feel that after re-adjusting the height of the switch to the magnet,  I should not have a problem.
