No motor movememt

Hi, I'm new to CNC and I've got the 4-axis pro board from Hobby CNC. I've got the board all set up. Getting all the correct voltage settings from the board. Ports and pins as far as I can tell are correct. Stepper motors are wired correctly, as per instructions. Been watching the video and have the manual and as far as I can tell, everything is set right, but when I use the up and down keys, no motor movement at all. When I hit the X-axis button, and use the up and down keys, I get readout on the Y-axis. But no motor movement. The step and direction pin settings I used, I got off from the circut board. I'm using the A-axis as the slave to the X. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If you select MDI screen and type this in and press enter do you get movement?

If you have a volt meter unplug the port cable from your breakout/drives and test on the end of the cable between an axis Dir pin and a Gnd pin, then jog one way then the other, the voltage should toggle between 0v and 5v. Reppeat for the Dir pins of the other axis.

Wow Hood, that might be beyond my ability. lol I did notice the steppers when power is applied they go solid and are very hard if not impossible to turn.
Update: I unhooked my slave stepper on A. Rehooked up and success. Yee Haa. Could the slave have been screwing things up somehow? I thought I had everything set right, but apparently not. Thank's for the replies!

That means your motors are getting held by the drives so something is getting to them but when you say they are powered is this from Mach or an external switch?

That's from external,(control box) It has the driverboard and power supply all in it.
