kernel speed and new PC

I was just reading through some of the older posts and came across this thread:

There are a few points brought up here that I wonder if I should use or pay attention to. generatorlabs said that they had problems using a Dell computer which is what my old computer that I was using up until I had a glitch. My new computer is a HP that I had to install a parallel port in. I'm wondering if this computer was not a good choice for running Mach. Also I am using 203Vs which are 10x microstepping, should I set my kernel speed to 35000Hz like simpson36 suggests?

What are your steps per unit and Velocity? that will determine the kernel speed you will need. ie 20,000 steps per unit x 100 IPM Velocity would equal 2,000,000 pulses per minute. Divide by 60 to get pulses per second and that would be 33,333 pulses per second (Hz ) or 33.333KHz so you would in this case need 35KHz kernel.
