Has anyone ever created a parts counter, I am doing a repetitive job and it would be good to have an on screen counter.

Hi Brian,
 I have a counter on my Mach machines.
I just call M110 at the end of the part file, RESET sets it back to 0.

Do you use subs ?

There are many ways to do it. Some easier than others
