I have a new G540 4 axis drive (using 3 axis').  My situatuion- I have a 24 volt power supply hooked to my G540. I have jumpered #10 to #12 connections on the drive and turned the Charge Pump to "off". I have grounded the drive back to the power supply and have a 3 amp in-line fuse from the power supply to the drive.  I have a green light on the drive. I am hooking up my stepper motors, one-at-a-time to confirm correct wiring.  When I turn on the power supply and have one motor hooked to the drive, the motor warms up to the touch and seems to be locked up, and is difficult to turn the shaft as if it is getting current to two opposing coils?  This situation is common to all of the Gecko RS-232 outlets, meaning, I can plug this motor in to any of the four axis outlets and have the same condition at the motor. I do not even have the computer hooked up to the drive via the IEEE cord..  Is this a correct situation?  I have called Gecko twice and they keep pointing back to the computer and/or Mach 3 configuration.  I have a resistor soldered across the RS-232 plug as instructed by Gecko.  Does this drive require a break-out board also?  I thought that feature was built-in to the Gecko board, so I do not have a break-out board in the system.

Might I have more than one problem(excluding a healthy amount of ignorance)?  It just doen't seem right to have power to the motor with the computer and Mach 3 unhooked.  I have 8-wire steppers.  They were originally wired parallel.  I re-wired the first one in discussion here, to series, just to double-check my wiring.  Grabbing at straws and pulling hair right now.  Any guidance would be appreciated, Thank you, Butch Castleberry

It is correct. When the drive is powered up, it should lock the motor(s). The motor won't spin until it gets step and direction signals.
