Pot and FRO problem using Pokeys
«
on:
April 15, 2009, 03:07:14 PM »
Hi everyone,
I have set up my Pokeys, added 10k pot, and it works.
The problem is when FRO goes over 100%, e.g 134% (no matter) it flashes: once there is 100% for a short time, and then goes to 134%. This flashing is always when the FRO is set by pot over 100%. When the FRO is set under 100%, everything works fine. Note that Im using SS too.
I added in the brain also, as the manual says, ModIO:124 input (Im using 43th pin in Pokeys), formula (here Im able to adjust the FRO range), and terminated it to Feed Ovr-821.
I read all of the topic here, and still have no idea how to solve this problem.
All I found is solution for FRO which flashes around 100% value.
If someone could write any advices, please help...
Best Regards
Piotr

Hi!
Please download and instal latest software and latest plugin from
www.poscope.com
Please check behaviour of your pot with PoKeys software.
Tools --> view analog inputs
If reading here is not steady, your pot is probably bad.
regards
Boris

Thanks for fast reply.
First I checked in Pokeys soft, is the pot working properly. It works just fine, pot is brand new, measured with multimeter.
Ok, I will try to check the soft and plugin versions, but I downloaded them last week, I supose.
Has anyone other ideas?
thanks in advance!
Regards,
Piotr
PS Here at Poland it is late at night now, so dont be angry if I reply with much delay...

SS limits the FRO to 100% that is where your problem lies.
I have a plugin that puts the FRO back to Mach that I will test out tomorrow and if the results are good I am sure Greg will release it.

Thanks Hood:)
I really like to hear that new plug-in will be release.
I will test Pokeys analog alone, without SS, and see does the problem exist.
I will post the results later.
Regards,
Piotr
/Edit
I checked analog input without SS, but with parallel port.
It works great:)
So, We are waiting for new plugin, I suppose not only I have these problems:)
Regards and thanks for interest in my problem.

Tested the plugin Greg altered for me last night and it is 99% working, there is a bug in it that if you go below about 9% in the FRO the SS will throw an Out of Data error and it requires a restart of Mach.
I have informed Greg and he will get the message when he wakes, hopefully it will be an easy fix, if not I think it could be worked around at the moment by altering the formula for FRO in the Brain. Not tried it yet but will when I get a chance.
The FRO has been put back to Mach control rather than the SS control so there is a slight delay, how much depends on the SS Controller frequency, at 4KHz it is almost instant but some computers may not be fast enough to run the SS at 4KHz.

Changed the formula in the Brain to not go below 11 % and the new plugin works extremely well, I even have my Auto FeedHold and AutoStart working with it and it works great. Hopefully Greg can find the below 10% problem, if not its still good :0

Thanks for respone Hood:)
Can You tell me which brain exactly You are using for limit FRO to 11%?
How it is possible that FeedHold works (stop motion) when the FRO is at 11%?
Lets assume: FRO over 100% works, feedhold works, but FRO says that override is at 11%. Am I right?
Lets say, it would be great to use SS and Pokeys without any additional brains, and have FRO working great.
Is Greg working on it now? Will be the new plugin released in some short time, or this is a "serious" problem?
Thanks in advance!

It is the Brain I previously made that went to 0.1% but I altered it today to test.

because I altered the Brain I had so that the feedhold would kick in at 11% rather than the previous 0.1% that I had

Unless Boris and Greg work on this together then I think you will always need to use a Brain or a macropump.

Not talked to Greg yet today, sent him the info but I think he is away today overseeing the production of more SS, not sure if it will be an easy fix or not but at least the FRO is nice and smooth now and can go above 100%, would be nice to get the below 10% problem fixed but it is still useable in this form, or at least for me it is.

Talked to Greg and he has looked at the problem and it seems to be the way Mach sends the data out when the FRO gets down low so at this point there is probably nothing that can be done in the plugin.
I am happy enough with the 11% min before a feedhold that I now have although it would be an added bonus to get it lower, maybe with the next revision of Mach things will be different.
